Book Review: Hollywood Digest

Orlando, Florida’s Nir Bashan has established himself as an important voice advocating that professionals harness their often latent creativity to realize the potential of their businesses.

He is a mainstay in the business community thanks to his numerous workshops and the consulting work he does for an impressive roster of clients.

He has aided the NFL Network, AT&T, Microsoft, and EA Sports, among others, in maximizing their profitability, making work more rewarding for their respective employees, and increasing sales. He has earned an Emmy nomination for his creativity, worked on numerous movies, music releases, and advertisements, and won a prestigious Clio Award while also becoming one of the youngest professors ever chosen to teach graduate courses at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His book The Creator Mindset: 92 Tools to Unlock the Secrets to Innovation, Growth, and Sustainability documents his approach for those interested in breathing new life into moribund business models and ranks high as an overall invigorating reading experience.

It is a little over two hundred pages in its hardcover edition and Bashan deserves fulsome praise for outlining such a detailed approach within a limited frame. Though some may question how comprehensive The Creator Mindset can be given its brevity, the book reads like an extension of what his workshop experiences likely entail and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Bashan exudes a relaxed yet confident demeanor throughout the entirety of The Creator Mindset and never strains to make an impact on his readers. His cozy exchange with readers refrains from belaboring the common mistakes business leaders make heading their respective enterprises and, instead, looks to lift them up rather than scolding them for their failures.

He strengthens this ingratiating slant with an assortment of “real world” examples proving the value of combining an analytical and creative mindset for expanding business opportunities. These examples are intelligently selected for many reasons, but one of the more important ones is they will likely be instantly familiar to many readers. Gimmicks do not drive this book. Bashan, instead, presents his argument for creative approaches in a systematic and easy to follow manner that never takes readers into the weeds, so to speak, and offers readers an open road to travel rather than cluttering it with long-winded sidebars. His polished writing style will find favor with many.

I would advise interested readers to take the book on from cover to cover initially, but after that, Bashan composes The Creator Mindset in such a way that you can return to it and dip into the text at selected points to address specific needs. This sort of flexibility ensures that this book will possibly be read for many years to come. Nir Bashan’s The Creator Mindset: 92 Tools to Unlock the Secrets to Innovation, Growth, and Sustainability will appeal to business owners big and small alike and has the right pace and merits to hold readers’ attention from beginning to end. Some may find fault with its presentation, but I believe they will be few in number.
